Japan and France dominated practically every category in the World Junior Pastry Championship at Sigep, Rimini. In the end, victory went to the Japanese pairing of Koshi Oyama and Kazumasa Yoshida. The Japanese team yesterday showed their strength in obtaining the highest marks for their chocolate artistic piece, bonbons, and the ice cream cup dessert. Pierre Herme was in charge of announcing the winners, who, full of emotion, received warm congratulations from the rest of the young pastry chefs in the competition.
France, in contrast, took away the special awards for the best single portion mille-fueille, best chocolate and coffee cake, and the cleanest and most organised team. The only team that spoiled the flow of conversation between the voices of the French and Japanese teams was Taiwan, who were awarded for their sugar piece with the third place on the podium.
