Within the framework of the Sirha Mexico salon, a total of six countries (Chile, Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico) had six hours to prepare two frozen fruit desserts, ten desserts on a plate, an artistic sugar creation, and another in chocolate to try to win the Copa Maya and get direct ticket to the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie 2017.

The Argentina team, made up of Jorge Garcia (sugar category) and Mariano Zichert (chocolate category), won first place. Second place went to Mexico and the third for Chile. Also, Brazil, who finished fourth, was awarded a “Wild Card” to go to Lyon with the winners.

After a long deliberation, the jury also awarded:

  • The Chocolate Award to the Colombian chef Carlos de Avila
  • The Sugar Award to the Brazilian chef Abner Leme
