Dominique Ansel premieres in restauration with 189 in LA
This November, Dominique Ansel opens 189 by Dominique Ansel, his first-ever full-service restaurant, in Los Angeles.
With this inauguration, the World Best Pastry Chef 2017 launches his biggest project to date. A two-story space, located in The Grove, one of the referential shopping malls in the whole country. On the top floor is the restaurant that will open on Saturday, November 4 and will feature all-day seat dining complete with tasty dishes, a full bar program and creative cocktails, special events, and the premiere of his first brunch service. With capacity for 150 seats, it follows a principle of transparency with open kitchens so that diners can see how recipes are prepared. In the lower area, a bakery will be located, Dominique Ansel Bakery, with indoor and outdoor cafe seating for 70, which will open its doors a day before, on November 3. A menu will be offered, including the DKA (Dominique’s Kouign Amann), Cookie Shot, Frozen S’mores, baked-to-order mini madeleines, the Cronut pastry, as well as creations made exclusively for LA.
The name of the restaurant has a special meaning for the inventor of the cronut. “Our original shop in Soho is located at 189 Spring Street, where everything began in 2011 with just four employees. Our LA restaurant address also happens at 189 The Grove Drive, so it was meant to be. It reminds us of our home, and now we’ll have a second home on the West Coast too”, he explains.
