Korea Wins the Gold Medal and Best Showpiece Award at the IBA UIBC Cup of Confectioners

Ana RodríguezThe Korean team, made up of In Seok Kim and Kyung Joo Jang, won the gold medal and the Best Showpiece award at the IBA UIBC Cup of Confectioners. Germany finished second, Mexico third, and Albania received the creativity award.
In the competition, held on May 22nd as part of Iba, participants had to create a showcase made of sugar, brittle, and chocolate, a matching glazed cake with at least three unbaked fillings, three different types of petit fours, three different pralines, two modeled figures, and ten identical motto-themed sweet pastries based on the theme of “Art.”

The historic fair also featured the IBA UIBC Cup of Bakers, in which six countries had to produce bread, small, party, and Danish pastries, as well as a baked showcase in the bakeries. The gold medal went to Corentin Molina and Yannis Thouy from France, the silver medal went to Johanna Lenhardt and Lea Wagner from Germany, and the bronze medal to Mike Onase and Gerrit Huckriede from the Netherlands. The jury also awarded the best showcase prize to Germany and the creative prize to Iceland. “To succeed in this competition, bakers have to perform outstandingly. Every move has to be perfect. This is artisan bakery at top notch level,” assured jury chairman Andreas Schmidt.
