Walking between the “layers of an ice cream cake” at Glace et chocolat by Hideki Kawamura

Nendo  has designed the beautiful interior of Glace et chocolat, a shop specialized in chocolate and ice cream by Hideki Kawamura (so good #6) in Kichijoji (Tokyo).

It is not the first time that the recognized studio works with the pastry chef. In 2011 he designed the interior of the pastry shop A tes souhaits!, where he went for a bright white interior and hard material such as marbles and metal. In Glace et Chocolat, however, the lighting is soft and warm, with soil and wood that provides a sense of softness.

The wall featured a design where soil of various shades was stacked to make it look like they were cut and staggered, taking as its motif ice-cream cakes made by layering ice-creams of various flavors and then cutting them into slices. The curved wall guides customers to the bottom of the shop, creating a wraparound effect like melted ice cream.
